Matthew Knies has officially re-signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs on a multi-year deal, according to multiple reports.

Elliotte Friedman first reported the deal as done, with multiple sources confirming the news with Knies, 22, signed to a six-year deal at $7.75M annually, a total of $46.5M.

Knies had a breakout year in his second full season in Toronto with 29 goals and 58 points in 78 games played.

He was a restricted free agent, and is now locked up long term and avoids a potential offer sheet situation for Toronto.

The Toronto Maple Leafs selected Knies in the second round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, 57th overall. He has 44 goals, 50 assists, & 94 points in 161 games played.

The signing of Knies is the second domino to fall for Toronto after signing forward John Tavares to a four-year contract extension at $4.38M yearly.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have just over $13.5M in available cap space heading into the offseason, with star winger Mitch Marner unsigned and likely to be heading to free agency.

The contract is just a tad under the presumed $8-million he was expected to make, and all things considered is a very respectable deal that both rewards Knies for his performance, and will also appreciate over time thanks to a rising salary cap.

No doubt there is a lot to be excited about, and we can all look forward to Knies being a mainstay for the next half-decade.

This is a developing story, details to follow.
