Last week, Brad Treliving, the GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs, made his first move before the deadline. He brought back defenseman Ilya Lyubuskin from the Anaheim Ducks. Looks like the Leafs are gearing up for more action this week, with rumors swirling around. Treliving seems keen on snagging another defenseman to beef up the blueline.
According to The Fourth Period, Treliving's eyeing a few options. They've been linked to five defensemen, including Stanley Cup champs like David Savard, Colton Parayko, and Joel Edmundson.
That said, the Leafs are tight on cap space. Any trade they make will need some financial gymnastics, like moving money out or pulling in a third team for help.
What's intriguing is that three of these defensemen are locked in beyond this season. Matt Dumba and Joel Edmundson are up for grabs in July, while David Savard has another year left on his contract. Mario Ferraro has two years to go. Colton Parayko is unrealistic too as he's locked up for five years with a $6.5 million annual tag.
