On Thursday evening, the Toronto Maple Leafs kicked off their busy week by acquiring a familiar face in Ilya Lyubushkin from the Anaheim Ducks for a 3rd round pick and a 6th round pick. Many insiders indicated that more can come regarding the Leafs as they look to strengthen up their core for a hopefully long playoff run.
After performing the trade with the Anaheim Ducks, a Leafs reporter had asked him if he is willing to move the first round pick, something Treliving wasn't really open to a few weeks ago.
In other words, it seems likely that the Leafs would only move their first round pick for someone with term, not someone who may leave in free agency in July, or in other terms, a rental.
With Timmins, and Giordano out of action, it seems like the Leafs may be open to adding another defenceman to their fold.
When I think about the Leafs, we tend to think about the possibility of rival defenceman David Savard, who is a player the Habs are open to dealing at the right price. Savard, has a 3.5M dollar cap hit and has a contract expiring in the 2024-25 season, giving the Leafs two playoff runs with him. The reported ask for the veteran defenseman is a first round pick, or a player equivalent to a first round pick such as Nick Robertson. Keep in mind that Nick Robertson has been sent down to the Marlies.
