Maple Leafs Receive Worrying News at Practice as Anthony Stolarz Is Nowhere to Be Seen
It's a bad sign for Toronto on Monday as the team saw the absence of Anthony Stolarz at practice, a day after he was taken out by a sliding Ridly Greig.
The Toronto Maple Leafs took the ice for practice on Monday ahead of Game Two of their first round series with
the Ottawa Senators and were without goaltender Anthony Stolarz, who ended up being skated into yesterday by Ottawa's Ridly Greig.
The news was reported by NHL Insider Chris Johnston, who reported that although Stolarz was not seen in practice, it was due to the Maple Leafs resting him, and less concerned with a serious or potential injury.
It's a positive sign that Toronto is just resting the goaltender, however it does bring in some concerns for the team going forward.
Given that Stolarz missed a month-plus with a knee injury earlier this season, including getting a procedure done to remove a loose body, Greig skating feet first and essentially chop-blocking the goalie was not only
malicious and intentional, but could have really messed things up for Stolarz.
Fans are also a bit confused and flummoxed about the news, as not only does Toronto have a history of staying quiet on potential injuries, but that Stolarz seemed fine, so why would he need to rest is brought into question.
This is also leading fans to believe that
Joseph Woll will start Game Two, and that the team is dealing with more than just a potential Stolarz injury.
One fan took exception to the report as well, and tried to call out the Toronto media for trying to bait their fans.
However, Johnston can only report what he knows, and if he saw the absence of Stolarz first, then got news that he was resting, you can't get upset at the timeline of events and it's silly to think he knew beforehand.
Playing Devil's Advocate here, if Stolarz is indeed hurt and Toronto is trying to hide it from their fans, they should feel at least a little confident that their bluff while being called; will still end up successful given how good Woll can and has been in the playoffs.
But Leafs fans aren't going to be convinced of anything until they see Stolarz on the ice for Game Two or not.
Though it shouldn't matter, they're in good hands anyways.
