The Toronto Maple Leafs made a roster move on Friday by recalling recently acquired forward Miles Wood from the Toronto Marlies (AHL).

Coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to the Vegas Golden Knights, the Toronto Maple Leafs have made a roster move trying to give themselves some more speed and scoring potential in the bottom six as
the team recalled forward Miles Wood from the Toronto Marlies ahead of their game against Colorado on Saturday.

No word yet on whether or not Wood is going to be starting or if he is going to merely be a depth option as the team figures out their injury situation - mainly with Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

Maple Leafs recall Wood as the bottom six needs an injection of life

Wood was recently brought in as part of the Kirill Marchenko blockbuster that sent Matthew Knies to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Wood, 31, had 14 points in 54 games for the Blue Jackets last season, and has 99 goals and 196 points in 567 career games with the Devils, Avalanche, and Blue Jackets.

It's unknown where Wood is going to play though he might get the start over Bo Groulx who has been pretty unremarkable to start the season, and has not added the scoring dynamic that the team had hoped for when they replaced Zack MacEwen.

Wood offers a lot of speed and forechecking to the lineup and someone who has been a reliable goal-scorer in his career even if he hasn't blown people away. He's one goal away from 100 in his career, and had a stretch where he averaged over 14 goals from 2018-2021.

Miles Wood may have extra motivation heading into Saturday

Hungry to get back into an NHL lineup, Wood is no doubt going to help out the team even if he doesn't initially get on the scoresheet.

But he's also going to be up against his old team if he does end up slotting into the lineup and there's a good chance that he will feel extra motivated to perform and produce against the team that traded him away last summer.

Only time will tell if Wood makes an effective piece of the Maple Leafs lineup, but with them needing a spark in the bottom six and needing to establish a bit more speed - it's Miles' time to shine.
