Vegas forward Mitch Marner took a shot at his former team after the Golden Knights' shootout win, and seemingly questioned Toronto's ability to stay resilient.

Although the Maple Leafs had the start of all starts, busting out to a 3-0 lead within the first ten minutes of their game against the Golden Knights, but somehow managed to let them fight back to force a shootout, where Toronto ultimately came away with the 4-3 loss.

Suffice to say, it was one night they didn't feel too good about, and if it weren't for Sergei Bobrovsky keeping them in it at points - it could have gotten ugly. Vegas stormed back and dominated Toronto the rest of the night, showing they can't be counted out no matter the score.

Mitch Marner takes a shot at the Maple Leafs after shootout win

And it was a former Maple Leaf who got the last laugh.

Mitch Marner addressed the media after Vegas' win, and in praising his team's ability to fight back from 3-0, seemed to take a little bit of a dig at his former team:

We're a resilient team. We stayed with it. We have a lot of confidence in our game throughout 60 minutes, and we did a great job of that.

While it's certainly a lot of positivity towards his own club, you can't help but imagine that the former Maple Leafs star wasn't targeting his old team a tad especially when it comes to their confidence level.

Marner finished the night with one assist, a minus-1, and five shots in 24:10 TOI, so it wasn't necessarily his best game against Toronto, but he did manage to come away with the all important victory.

Toronto needs to show resilience of their own against Colorado

After jumping out to a 3-0 lead, you'd think the Maple Leafs would park the bus and ensure that things don't get out of hand. Instead, the team gave away more than their fair share of pucks, and combined with some pretty unfortunate officiating - they flat out blew it.

But now it's time for them to show resilience on their own against the Avalanche on Saturday night, and the best thing they can do is to make sure they come out swinging and then manage to hunker down and protect the lead by any means necessary.

If they can do that, then it will prove that they too, much like Vegas, are a resilient group who can come back. We already saw it against Nashville, but this time they need to do so coming off blowing the game themselves.
