With the Toronto Maple Leafs being linked to Seattle's Mason Marchment, another team has emerged according to Elliotte Friedman; and it's a Canadian rival.

Reports surfaced recently over the past week or so that the Toronto Maple Leafs were looking to potentially make a deal for Seattle Kraken forward Mason Marchment as a way to improve their top-six and give them a new face to hopefully spark Auston Matthews and company.
It won't be easy but the team has enough middle of the road pieces to entice Seattle, and with them also struggling mightily this season; they could decide to reset and dish off their veterans.

Mason Marchment being pursued by Winnipeg: Friedman

That's great news for the Maple Leafs but they might not be alone in celebrating this new development.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman on the latest 32 Thoughts podcast, the latest news around Marchment includes another Canadian team; more specifically the Winnipeg Jets.
I think Winnipeg is kind of dipping around in there to see what possibilities exist for it.

While it's not guaranteed that Winnipeg can sway GM Ron Francis to part with Marchment, they do have multiple firs around picks to play with, and while that seems like an overpayment; it at least gives them more flexibility.
Marchment, 30, has struggled this season with only 13 points in 29 games, however is coming off back-to-back 20-goal seasons, so the offense is definitely there, but much like Seattle as a whole; just hasn't figured it out.

Can the Maple Leafs outbid Winnipeg for Mason Marchment?

If Winnipeg is going to be dangling a first-round pick in front of Seattle's face then unless the Leafs wanna give up their last one; then they probably don't have enough with ruining their future.
But they could make a swap with a player who has fallen out of favor, that being Matias Maccelli. He's rarely being used and hasn't gelled with the current group. He's young enough to help Seattle now and later on, plus would get much more playing time, potentially in a top-six role.
With the roster freeze quickly approaching, the Maple Leafs can't stand pat if they want to make a move now, and if they have any hopes of stopping the bleeding now then a change has to be made.
Mason Marchment may not be the perfect solution right now, but for a team who is struggling to find answers then perhaps he's a good start, just so long as they don't get outbid first.
