Earlier today, the Toronto Maple Leafs freed up $7 million in cap space thanks to some drastic decisions involving Max Domi and Dakota Joshua.

Max Domi and Dakota Joshua are dealing with some serious injuries, and Maple Leafs fans have been curious about how the team would handle their situations.

Joshua has a core issue, and Max Domi's back is still a huge question mark. According to Puck Pedia, both players have been added to LTIR, otherwise known as the Long-Term Injured Reserve.

This frees up $7 million in cap space. Domi is making $3.75 million this season, while Joshua is making a cool $3.25 million. Now, the Leafs have the freedom to go out and sign another player to bolster this roster.

Overall, these decisions were expected, but that doesn't mean they don't sting. Domi is a player with deep enthusiasm for the Leafs franchise, and appeared upset to not be on the ice last night.

Meanwhile, Joshua came to Toronto with promise last season, and unfortunately, he has not been able to truly show what he can do.

What do the Leafs do next?

The Toronto Maple Leafs do have some interesting options going forward. Based on what we saw last night, it remains clear that the blue line needs some work.

Darren Raddysh looked rough alongside Morgan Rielly, which is concerning when you consider just how much he is getting paid.

Meanwhile, the rest of the defensive pairings were acceptable, but there is still work to be done if this team wants to compete in the Atlantic Division.

The Montreal Canadiens are one of the teams you will need to beat to make a deep playoff run, and as it stands, the Leafs just aren't there yet.

General Manager John Chayka has some work to do, and Leafs fans are trusting him to make things happen.
