Congratulations are in order for Maple Leafs forward Nicolas Roy as he celebrated his wedding recently, and it could be a sign of good things to come this season.
The NHL offseason for players is full of both a lot of hard work and well deserved relaxation. Although they need to keep fit and end up still putting in tough workouts, there is a chance for them to get a little R&R and
enjoy the smaller things in life. Nicolas Roy's Special Day Away From the Ice
For new Maple Leaf Nicolas Roy, he certainly has had a summer to remember. Not only did he end up getting traded from Vegas in the
Mitch Marner blockbuster, but he just so happened to hit a pretty important life milestone.
Roy celebrated his marriage to his wife Laurie
on July 19th but waited until now to post about it publicly and have been engaged since November 2023.
It marks a wonderful start to a brand new chapter in his career, and with a new wife and a new team to get acquainted with; things are certainly looking bright for the veteran forward.
Why Fans Love Seeing Maple Leafs Players Thrive Off the Ice
Well, let's be frank. Often times we see athletes as more than human beings. They are celebrities, they are icons, faces of the sport; whatever you want to call it we put these players on a pedestal whether they want us to or not.
So allowing us fans to see the more human side of the athlete and understand that hey, as much as they are famous they still have normal lives; they aren't immune to feelings.
Plus it's a great way to get a bit of a behind the scenes look at the lives of these players who are often protected to the highest degree when it comes to any information leaking.
Although some stuff does get out there, for the most part teams are good at keeping things private.
For
Roy, he's going to have a lot of expectations coming into this season, new nuptials or not. Stepping into a very important role, Roy has to come in and start off with a bang.
Last season he was in more of a fourth-line role, but still managed 31 points in 71 games (15 goals, 16 assists) but does have double digit goals in his last four seasons and is quite the underrated playmaker; he just didn't have the most offensive pieces in Vegas.
We'll have to see if the pressure is going to affect Roy in his first season with Toronto but for now, he can relax and enjoy life for a bit until the real work begins.
