Why Signing Jack Roslovic Might Not Be the Best Move for the Maple Leafs

While adding Jack Roslovic may sounds like a great way to add some offense, according to Leafs Morning Take, it could be a something that could backfire badly.
It's been the hot topic of the offseason, but the fact that Jack Roslovic still remains unsigned is a bit of a mystery.
Perhaps he's waiting out his best options, or there is a lack of interest. Either way he's had ton of speculation surrounding his name, and wherever there is smoke there's usually fire.
Jack Roslovic's a Wild Card for Maple Leafs
However as good as a signing he may be for the Maple Leafs given he can add a bunch of secondary scoring and slide up and down the lineup, there could be some underlying reasons why he isn't locked up yet, and we might know why.
What now for Jack Roslovic? Obviously a good player, but this has been the story of his entire career. Like you start to wonder and have questions that Carolina, one of the premier teams in the league, why didn't they want Jack Roslovic?
Why hasn't anybody bid? It's August 13th.
They then go on to mention that if the team does decide to sign him, it could end up backfiring more than actually benefitting them:
There is actually probably more likelihood that it doesn't work than it does. The expectation would be okay, he's a guy who can fit into maybe your second line; likely the third line, the most positive, optimistic outcome is he's an impact player.
But that's kind of the same vibe I just keep getting. I'm looking at the stats which don't tell the whole story, maybe it doesn't tell you exactly who he played with in these situations.
Like we're gonna sign this guy, that you and I have made about 300 thumbnails for this summer and put out videos and clips, and we're gonna sign him and be like 'Oh, uh, right. Well, does anybody want this guy? How can we get him out of here? Where does he fit?
Toronto's Gamble a True Do or Die
Look, there's no doubt that
Roslovic could add a lot to the team and he very well could reach into his past with
Auston Matthews and find some type of chemistry, or work well with
John Tavares.
But there are no guarantees and though his offensive chops are there, besides his two 20-goal seasons he's averaged 9.6 goals his other few seasons.
Not the greatest defensively either, he would need to come in and explode offensively in order to cover for his shortcomings and if he's looking to earn $3-million+ on his next deal he better earn it.
If they bring him in and it pays off? Awesome, Toronto found a bargain offensive weapon for then ext few seasons. If not? Well, chalk it up as another failed signing and yet another blemish on Brad Treliving's resume; one that is slowly filling with bad deals.
So while the prospect of adding Roslovic to the team is enticing and brings some positives, those negatives really shine a bad light on the veteran forward.
It might not be his ability that's keeping him from a deal, and that's the scariest thing of it all.
