Maple Leafs Fans Furious Over NHL's Latest Decision for Game 3 in Florida

If Game 3 wasn't already going to be heated enough between the Maple Leafs and the Panthers, the NHL's latest decision isn't going to make things any less crazy for both the players and the fans.

While the first controversy came on the heels of knowing the officials in Game 1 were the same who let Sam Bennett get away with running roughshod over the Maple Leafs, this second one is almost just as bad.

It was announced that referee Wes McCauley was going to be one of the officials for the third game of Round Two, and for Maple Leafs fans; they are right upset at the notion.

However, the reason that McCauley hasn't liked the Maple Leafs recently may not have anything to do with the team itself but rather who was running it.

Fans speculate that the referee's beef was actually with former coach Sheldon Keefe, and with Craig Berube in tow, it's not going to be like the days of old.

While that may give Maple Leafs fans a sigh of relief, it still doesn't make the game against Florida any easier, especially with the officials having a keen eye on everything that is going on.

Matthew Knies was already warned about some of his antics by the referees last game.

With the knowledge that both teams are going to be at each other's throats when it comes to being physical and establishing the tone; there could be a flurry of calls.

Or, it could be that the refs are still going to let Florida get away with things, and if they continue to be able to do whatever they want to Toronto, it might come back to bite them.

Craig Berube's team has done a very good job at not retaliating, and as much as Florida is frustrating them, it's even more frustrating for them that Toronto isn't reacting.

While McCauley's insertion into the game may give some fans pause, he was a substitute last game and there weren't any real shenanigans afoot.

But Game 3 is a different beast, and McCauley's reputation will be under the microscope, especially if Toronto fans feel they are getting the short end of things.
