Maple Leafs eyeing cheaper alternatives for two roster players
The Maple Leafs are up against the cap, and may now be looking to trade two of their roster players for cheaper replacements: Calle Jarnkrok and David Kampf.
The Leafs may look internally first for these replacements.
Pontus Holmberg is in the team's farm system and would be paid much less than David Kampf as a 4th line center.
Should the Leafs be interested looking externally, then Sammy Blais would be a good option. Blais isnt a potent scorer, but is a real pest for opposing team's players.

Blais given five and a game
Blais is a real grinder. He had 194 hits in 53 games last season with the Blues. It's also important to note that new Leafs coach Craig Berube used to coach Blais. His deal would likely come in just under $1 million.
Jarnkrok's cheaper replacement could be
Daniel Sprong. Sprong can definitely hit the 50 point mark and would slot in nicely in the top nine.
Sprong picked up 43 points with the Red Wings last season, and the year before that hit a career high 46 points while playing for the Seattle Kraken.

GM Brad Treliving still has some work to do before the season starts, and his main priority is to work the phones to try and shed salary any way he can. Cheaper replacement depth players would be a good start to allow the Leafs some more salary cap breathing room.
