While many criticized Brad Treliving's decision to land Ryan Reaves this summer, it was clearly motivated by the teams desire to get tougher, especially for big games like Thursday's showdown with the Boston Bruins.

Failing to do his job

Unfortunately, the one role that Reaves was hired to fill, he didn't fill during that game, as Brad Marchand used a dirty play to take out and ultimately injure Maple Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren.

Despite this and plenty of taunting from the Bruins captain, Reaves, along with the rest of this team stood by and watched him go, but it's rightfully Reaves that is taking the blame, as he should have gone after Marchand and stood up for his injured teammate.

Job on the line?

This isn't the first time Reaves has failed to be the enforcer this team needs either, but unfortunately for Leafs fans, Sheldon Keefe seems happy to stick Reaves, who has just 10 goals over his past 152 games in the lineup every night.

Ultimately, something has to change for this Leafs team, as they have several prospects ready to contribute on the score board, and if Reaves can't even stick up for his teammates against one of, if not the most hated player in the league, then there's just no place for him in today's NHL.
