Jack Roslovic's absence at practice was called maintenance by the Leafs but because of the Craig Berube era, it feels like things could be a whole lot worse.
Last night's game against the Utah Mammoth was again, another heart-breaker in the waning minutes, as Darren Raddysh's cross-checking penalty lead to the Maple Leafs coming away with a tough 3-2 loss.
They got two gorgeous goals from Jack Roslovic, but he also seemingly had some injury issues to deal with. He was made unavailable to reporters post-game, and coach Jim Hiller believes there's 'something going on' with Roslovic but declined to elaborate.
Jack Roslovic is being maintained, but for what we have no idea
Amidst a seven-game point streak, Roslovic was not seen on the ice for Toronto's practice on Tuesday morning as the team claimed he was taking it off for maintenance:
-
However, hearing those words gives Roslovic's status a whole new perspective considering the last two seasons - that meant bad news was on the horizon.
Craig Berube's era was defined by maintenance days it felt at times, as the team was continually dealing with injuries. But they were hiding something much deeper that led to serious issues.
Toronto's past two seasons have caused headaches on the injury front
Brandon Carlo was kept off the ice Nov. 14th for maintenance, then was day-to-day, then placed on IR, then had to have surgery that kept him out for a month. Anthony Stolarz was maintained for a day, then a week later was also on the shelf.
They also had the same issue with William Nylander, as he was kept off the ice for maintenance, then was subsequently out two weeks with a groin injury.
If we are looking historically over the past two years, whenever a player gets a day off for maintenance we could be looking at a much longer absence.
There is a bit of hope though, as Toronto has a brand new Sport Performance staff, with a slew of new doctors and trainers who were brought in to help accelerate recovery and keep players healthy.
Roslovic very well could be just needing a breather today, and the speculation about a more serious injury could be overblown. However, history has played tricks on us before and those last two seasons really did a number on Maple Leafs fans' psyche.
Do you think Jack Roslovic's injury is worse than the Maple LEafs are letting on?
