The Toronto Maple Leafs and Brad Treliving made their first major move last night as they traded for Ilya Lybushkin in a three-way deal that resulted in getting Lybushkin with a significant portion of his salary retained. Now, with room left to make more moves, speculation has the Leafs considering another trade for a blueliner.
Elliotte Friedman revealed today that the Leafs are looking at the Washington Capitals' Nick Jensen, a right-handed defenseman.
Jensen, despite having just 8 assists and no goals, is a solid shutdown defender who sits at an even rating after 56 games played. Arguably most important is the fact that he is right-handed. However, it will take some creativity for Brad Treliving to get a deal done come the deadline.
We will see how much he is willing to give up in order to bolster the Leafs' blueline ahead of the stretch, or if he thinks it is too risky.
