A fan-made lineup on Puckpedia is causing a stir after Anthony Stolarz signed his extension due to the amount of money saved for the Maple Leafs going into 2026.
A custom lineup made by a fan has stirred reactions as it finds a way to insert
Connor McDavid into the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup, and while keeping the team intact.
Puckpedia's 'PuckGM' feature allows for teams to create their own lineup for all 32 NHL franchises, taking on the role of a GM in which users can build custom rosters, all while staying under the league's salary cap.
One user created a roster that generated buzz for the fact it brought McDavid back home to Toronto, showcasing how the pending UFA would be able to sign with the Leafs.
Potential Maple Leafs Lineup with Connor McDavid
A prediction from content creator 'Nealer' has Connor McDavid signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs on a seven year deal for $15M annually.
The contract, which is a prediction, estimates that McDavid signs with Toronto at that amount, but assumes that
Bobby McMann is no longer with the Leafs, assumingly having left as a free agent.
The proposal has come before
Kirill Kaprizov's new eight-year extension
at $17M annually, making the likeliness that McDavid goes for more being more possible of an option.
McDavid could be the first contract in NHL history to go to the $20M mark, with a contract less than Kaprizov seeming unlikely with the new deal for the Wild superstar.
One argument would be for the Toronto Maple Leafs would be able to get a potential discount for McDavid, who grew up a Leafs fan, although even then the contract likely goes above Kaprizov's.
How Anthony Stolarz Makes A McDavid Signing Possible
In this specific scenario, it's the Anthony Stolarz signing that helps potentially land McDavid.
The Stolarz signing, a four-year deal
at $3.75M annually, was key in this specific scenario, fitting McDavid under the cap in the offseason.
As well, another key factor is the addition of rookies
Easton Cowan and
Ben Danford on entry-level deals that allow for flexibility and for the Leafs to add contracts with prospect support.
The departure of McMann also helps the Leafs roster both in terms of a spot and for the salary cap situation. It also leaves a hole open on the top-six.
Connor McDavid has not signaled that his goal is to leave Edmonton, but as the Oilers superstar is without a contract with the season nearing, that hasn't left fans from wondering the possibility of what it would take to get arguably the NHL's best player.
