Mitch Marner's frosty relationship with the Toronto Maple Leafs has been made public, and if you didn't think he was leaving before; this is assuredly confirmation.

With the ongoing saga of Mitch Marner and his departing of the Maple Leafs, a new caveat has been thrown into things that all but assures that Marner is headed elsewhere this summer.

Mitch Marner "done" with being part of Maple Leafs: James Mirtle

Speaking on his podcast with fellow NHL Insider Jonas Siegel, The Athletic's James Mirtle broke down how Mitch Marner and the Maple Leafs relationship has fractured and things are pretty much over in every sense of the word.
Here's a breakdown:
- Marner's camp has been distancing themselves from the team since the end of Game 7.
- Describes the relationship between Marner and the Leafs as really bad.
- Mirtle believes that Marner wants nothing to do with the organization anymore.
- From talking to people around the team, he says «he's over it» is a good way to describe how Marner feels about being a Maple Leaf.
- The sense from Marner's camp is that he's taken too much of the blame for the team's lack of success and is tired of being a scapegoat.
It's a whole mishmash of negativity and animosity between the two parties, and with the only solution being a separation at this point, is it better to just let it be?

Mitch Marner was clear in his intentions; Toronto needs to let him move on

There's no point anymore. Marner is gone and the fact he might be entertaining the team in his free agent talks is a slap in the face to an organization that while wasn't perfect; still seemed to bend to his will.
Maybe if he ended up actually being a productive player when it mattered, he wouldn't get as much flak, and while he feels shaded by fans, you don't hear Auston Matthews or John Tavares crying when they get criticized.
If he's so quickly over it, it's such a turnabout face from the supposed "team-first" attitude that led him to declining multiple trades and cancelling a charity event; a great way to see your reputation tank in moments.
This is akin to a toddler throwing a tantrum when he doesn't get his way, and just because you're frustrated doesn't mean you need to take it out on the team who gave you this chance to earn the money in the first place.
So Marner gets to ride off into the sunset with a boatload of cash and a negative attitude towards the Maple Leafs.
But they need to let him ride off and fade away, removing a toxic part of the locker room; which may be enough to turn things around.
