Mitch Marner is willing to listen to multiple teams' offers on July 1, with the Toronto Maple Leafs right in the mix according to Elliotte Friedman.

With the question of where Mitch Marner will end up signing and for how much a very hotly debated topic, everyone has their own guesses and opinions when it comes to the final destination for the superstar winger.
However, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that Marner is in no rush to end up signing with a team, and while July 1 is the first day of free agency, he is willing to hear teams out; including the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Friedman states:
One other thing I'm hearing about Marner, there's the possibility again; there's still two weeks who knows where it will end up. There is a chance this is not a July 1 thing, but his choice is to set up Zoom or in person meetings on July 1 or thereafter.

I was told that's one of the possibilities, there's time, but that's not out of the question.

I think the Maple Leafs were offered one of the meetings and one team thought it was funny to them, because what could possibly be the benefit of having a meeting with a guy you know everything about?

It's a stunning turnaround from earlier reports where the Marner camp was not willing to work with the Maple Leafs or even entertain a deal, and if Marner were to end up re-signing, make several predictions look a bit premature.

Could Mitch Marner end up back in Toronto?

Well, if the whole goal was for Marner to return but still entertain offers, it's going to make him even more vilified than he already is. The rollercoaster of emotions that Marner put both the team and fans through won't be forgotten, and coming back will only pour salt in the wounds.
It's totally feasible though, as we've seen Steven Stamkos do the same thing in the past, looking to see what the market was willing to offer before re-signing with Tampa Bay.
It also feels like the meeting with the team is more of a formality than anything serious, it could be the sign that Marner is giving his true farewell to the team after all this time.
But the hockey world is indeed an unpredictable one, so you can really never say never.
