Update (1:55 PM) The Maple Leafs have officially placed David Kampf on waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract.
Leafs forward David Kampf will be going on waivers later today, according to a new report.
According to Darren Dreger of TSN, David Kampf is expected to be placed on waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs later today.
The 30-year-old Kampf will be available on waivers until 2pm tomorrow, allowing for him to be claimed elsewhere in the league.
Kampf has not appeared with the Toronto Maple Leafs this season, having been assigned to the minors after not making the team out of training camp.
H3: Why the situation reached this point for David Kämpf and the Maple Leafs
David Kampf has been seeking an opportunity to stick in the majors, and is reportedly looking at a pathway to return to the pros.
After appearing in four games with the Marlies, Kampf had left the team and was
placed on suspension by the Leafs for failing to return to the team.
It was reported that Kampf had been looking for the potential of an NHL opportunity with another organization rather than being in the minors.
If Kampf is not claimed off of waivers by an NHL team, the Czech forward could try his hand overseas and look for professional top-flight opportunities in Europe as Kampf does not seem to have interest in a return to the AHL.
Toronto, with a deep depth chart on offense, doesn't present the opportunity to bring Kampf in the lineup, and the Leafs have prioritized other options as call-ups instead of him, including rookie
Easton Cowan.
Kampf will be on waivers until tomorrow, although unknown if he clears if Kampf will return to the Marlies or not, otherwise Toronto can agree to release Kampf's contract.
