This afternoon NHL insider Darren Dreger opened up about Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner's injury. During his segment on Mitch Marner, Darren Dreger dropped some good news for Maple Leafs fans.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are well on their way to a spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs. With their spot secure the Maple Leafs can be a bit more careful about how they use their players during these last few regular season games.

With their upcoming playoff run in mind, many fans have been concerned about Mitch Marner. He has been absent from the Toronto Maple Leafs since March 7th when he sustained a high ankle injury against the Boston Bruins. What was originally supposed to be a day-to-day injury has lingered for almost a month. After it was announced that Mitch Marner would not return for the Maple Leafs games this past weekend one NHL insider decided to get to the bottom of the situation.

Dreger exposes the reason that Mitch Marner remains out for the Maple Leafs

During an appearance on the First Up show NHL insider Darren Dreger was asked about Mitch Marner's injury. Darren Dreger confirmed that the prolonged absence of Mitch Marner was strange but was out of an abundance of caution and prevention for the playoffs.

I'm getting somewhat conflicting information. But I do think that the Maple Leafs are wise in this approach, Dreger said. I feel like if there were a playoff spot on the line, of course, he'd be playing Toronto Maple Leafs medical [staff] is running the show here, and Marner will be back when he's ready.

Despite this disappointing news for Maple Leafs fans hoping to see Mitch Marner return this week, the team did finally get some positive injury news. On the positive end of the injury spectrum the Maple Leafs announced yesterday that Tyler Bertuzzi, Ilya Lyubushkin, and TJ Brodie would all be back in the lineup.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have just 12 games left in their regular season. As the season comes to a close it will be interesting to see if the Maple Leafs bring back Mitch Marner at all or if he makes his debut back in the playoffs.
