With the Toronto Maple Leafs
heading into Game 4 against Florida, they still come in with a 2-1 series lead, but they would very much like to have Anthony Stolarz back, which might not happen given he hasn't skated yet.
We have no idea when he's coming back, all we know is he's progressing. It's a good sign for sure, but doesn't give fans relief that he's back any time soon.
According to Craig Berube, he won't know either.
There are concerns about the Maple Leafs goaltending no doubt when it comes to this second round.
Anthony Stolarz's Absence Stinging More And More Each Game
Joseph Woll has been decent, but not the shutdown goalie Toronto needs, meanwhile Stolarz is still on the mend after an elbow to the head, and the other goalies don't leave much hope either (besides perhaps
Matt Murray).
All things are looking up for the goaltender, but with the unknown date of his return it might end up being beyond the series if Toronto can last that long.
They put up a valiant effort in Game 3 and got a few bad bounces that ended up in Florida scoring, and while it's hard to say if Stolarz would have had better luck, he might have given them a better chance.
Woll is good no doubt, but often struggles early on in the game and doesn't really come alive until the third period; sometimes halfway through.
That's great when Toronto is trying to secure a win via one or two goals, but it doesn't help much if Florida piles it on early, compounded with the Maple Leafs' somewhat inconsistent offensive potential.
Stolarz was a huge reason why Toronto not only won
the Atlantic Division but made it through the first round, and it's almost like
Sam Bennett knew he needed to take him out for the Panthers to have a shot.
So far it's worked, and created a huge chasm of unknowns when it comes to when or even if Anthony Atolarz is returning for Round Two.
If he hasn't touched the ice yet, don't bank on it for a bit. Which is bad news for Toronto going forward.
