Craig Berube was seen visibly angry during the Toronto Maple Leafs game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Berube was heated with his team despite the Leafs at that point being up by a score of 4-3, but Berube was evidently still not happy.
Shown on the live broadcast shouting from the bench, Berube's irritation was obvious, clearing having some sort of displeasure despite Toronto ahead.
What seemed to set Berube up was a problem in Toronto's performance, and an issue that has been plaguing the team this season, and Berube's anger is only
getting more frequent.
What set Berube off during the second period
What appeared to set off Craig Berube into a fit of rage was the Toronto Maple Leafs being penalized.
Jake McCabe was given a penalty on an interference call in the second period, the second penalty of the period for Toronto.
It was the penalty that got Berube irritated, and if a lip-reading assessment is to be correct, it would appear he said the penalty was 'stupid'.
If accurate, it's unclear if Berube would be referring to the call as "stupid", or the fact it was taken, or even both.
Berube has looked to avoid this season for Toronto to be taking unnecessary penalties, and it's another bit of stress on Berube that he's getting tired seeing the team fail to execute.
Why the second period continues to be a problem for the Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been outshot 15-24 in the second period, 17-17 in the first and 25-18 in the third, the second being a weak spot for the Leafs.
There's two major problems for Toronto, they're struggling in the second period, and they're taking unnecessary penalties. Tonight, they managed to do both.
Tonight will not be viewed as a success, but with the challenges in the second, the third may have been worse for the Leafs after giving up two goals to blow a lead to Carolina, 5-4.
Craig Berube wants the Leafs roster to play tougher, but also smarter, and not sacrificing brain for brawn.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will need a find a way to shore up their ability to have a lead stick in the second period and avoid giving up goals, and clean up their penalty problems with unnecessary offenses.
If the Toronto Maple Leafs can't clean up their act and play smarter, it'll start to see major ramifications on the roster, and Craig Berube may become forced to make drastic changes.
