Craig Berube Chooses Leafs Starting Goalie for Must-Win Game 6 vs. Senators
Anthony Stolarz, who has started every game of the series against Ottawa this year, was given criticism over the loss, with some wondering if
Joseph Woll should come in for the next game instead.
After failing to close out the Senators in an elimination game at home in a series that now once again goes back to Ottawa, Craig Berube has made up his mind on who will be in net.
According to the lines in Leafs practice, it appears to confirm that tonight's start for Toronto will be Anthony Stolarz.
Despite the loss, Berube will be going back to focusing on just Stolarz in net, once again giving him a chance to close out the series against Ottawa and redemption with a potential win.
Stolarz has a 3-2-0 record in the playoffs, with a 2.25GAA and a .899sv% in five games.
In the regular season, Stolarz had a 21-8-3 record in the regular season with Toronto, along with a 2.14GAA and a league-leading .926sv%.
Berube has followed the strategy of Stanley Cup winners in recent years to follow near exclusively on a single netminder throughout the playoffs.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are still stapling Joseph Woll to the bench, a deviation from the regular season in which both netminders were relied upon to equally carry the team at the position, a formula that hasn't translated well for teams in the postseason in years past.
For now, Stolarz will get one more chance at pushing Toronto to the next round, with his starting role growing increasingly uncertain.
