Commissioner Gary Bettman make a surprising announcement: The Leafs are in luck
The NHL Commissioner, Gary Bettman, made a surprising announcement and the Toronto Maple Leafs are in luck!
The Leafs have a lot of things to deal with this summer. Like most NHL teams, they want to get better before the next season, but they also have to deal with multiple free agents.
Yesterday, Bill Daly and Gary Bettman made a major announcement. They revealed that the salary cap will go from $83.7 million to $88 million, the biggest raise since the Pandemic.
"NHL salary cap will rise to $88 million next season"
Bettman made the following comment after announcing the raise:
"It's great to see. I know the general managers and the teams are excited to have more flexibility, and it means that the revenues are as robust as we've been telling you all along."
"I predict that it will continue to go up,» the Commissioner said Saturday. Obviously, with the number of years we had with flat or modest increases, it was necessary to recapture how much was overpaid and how much the escrow built up during COVID, but I believe we're going to continue to see robust growth in the cap."
In Toronto, the $4.3 million will be put to good use. If he thought he wouldn't keep a free agent for financial reasons, he can now offer him something close to $4.3 million.
