The 35-year-old Kane is coming off a strong season with the Detroit Red Wings after recovering from offseason hip-resurfacing surgery. He tallied 20 goals and 47 points in 50 regular-season games, proving that he still is an elite NHL level player. However, he only signed a one-year deal with the Red Wings last summer, sparking rumors that he could potentially come back to Chicago in order to mentor Connor Bedard.
Unfortunately for Blackhawks fans, Kyle Davidson has made it clear Kane will not be signing with the team this summer. Blackhawks reporter Charlie Roumeliotis had the full quote.
Blackhawks fans do not seem to be particularly surprised by this news. After all, it would seem rather odd for the team to sign Kane a year after trading him away to the New York Rangers. Luckily, they still have Connor Bedard to look forward to watching in his second pro season next year.
Bedard is the favorite to win the Calder Trophy this year as NHL rookie of the year after he put up 22 goals and 61 points in 68 games. Can he bring a new era of winning hockey back to Chicago? Only time will tell.
