The Boston Bruins made a sneaky roster move ahead of their game against Toronto, calling up former Maple Leafs forward Alex Steeves to take the ice on Saturday night.
It's going to be an Original Six clash on Saturday night when the Boston Bruins take on the Toronto Maple Leafs with the latter trying to make it four wins in a row and leap the Bruins in a very surprising start to the 2025 NHL season.
We already know that Toronto is going to see a former face in
Fraser Minten taking the ice, though it's a bit of a shame that
Easton Cowan isn't on the ice tonight to face his former teammate, but it's still going to be great for his former teammates to see him again.
While they hope he doesn't torch them, there's another name they may need to worry about.
Bruins Make Surprising Call-Up; Add Former Maple Leaf Steeves
The Bruins made a roster move on Saturday to call up former Toronto forward Alex Steeves, while placing
Elias Lindholm on the IR:
Lindholm has been hurt since the end of October, and is going to be a few weeks before he returns to the ice.
Steeves gets a chance to showcase to his former team what they are missing out on after neglecting to re-sign him this summer.
Steeves spent four season with the Maple Leafs, mainly playing for the Toronto Marlies in the AHL. In 14 NHL games, Steeves has three points (1 goal, 2 assists) although he had 216 points in 247 games with the Marlies from 2021-22 to 2024-25.
He was also quite complimentary towards the Maple Leafs organization and mentioned he had a great time with both Toronto affiliates:
I absolutely loved being a Marlie and loved being a Leaf, and it's good to be back. It feels weird going back to the hotel and not my apartment right now, but it's going to be a good night.
It will be a night of reunions as not only do Minten and Steeves face their old squad, but so too does
Brandon Carlo who will get his own chance to show Boston why they would have loved to keep him; though they got Minten so it feels like they're okay with that.
Toronto faces the Bruins at home on Saturday night, with the puck drop scheduled for 7pm ET.
