The Toronto Maple Leafs defensive prospect cupboard is completely bare, but with the CHL's window for signing ELC's almost upon us, it appears they have one massive target in mind.

Toronto chasing Oshawa Generals defenseman Connor Punnett

According to a report, when the CHL's window for signing Entry Level Contracts open on March 1st, Brad Treliving and the Toronto Maple Leafs already have one major target.

On March 1st, teams can sign players to ELC's that begin next season. I could see Lisowsky getting done around then, but it also opens up the CHL Free Agent market

TOR hasn't really been involved there in recent years, but they've been heavily scouting D Connor Punnett

For some time now, Toronto have been scouting defenseman Connor Punnett of the Oshawa Generals in the OHL, and standing at 6-foot-2, 202 pounds, it's easy to see why.

Beyond that, Punnett has been very productive at the OHL level, tallying 48 points in 66 games, 31 points in 34 games and now in 2023-24, 11 points in 19 games with Oshawa.

At just 20-years of age, he's certainly still a prospect of the future, but with that type of production in that body, if Toronto could land him when that window opens, it would be a major coup for Brad Treliving and the future of the Maple Leafs blue line.
