A new report positions the Toronto Maple Leafs to potentially be in the hunt for a top NHL free agent apparently on the move.

With the current uncertainty surrounding the Toronto Maple Leafs free agent status with both the fact that the team needs to re-sign multiple key players, including Mitch Marner, John Tavares, & Matthew Knies, but as well needs to ensure the team is adding quality in the market.
For one, it's not known if Marner will be back in Toronto, as contract details need to be worked and with the potential other teams could offer more for Marner, Toronto is not guaranteed to retain their hometown star winger.
New reporting on the future of Vancouver Canucks star forward Brock Boeser may be one area that could provide an alternative in the event Toronto loses out on keeping Marner with the Leafs.

Report: Brock Boeser's Time In Vancouver Appears Headed For The End

Brock Boeser shared to Sportsnet Canucks reporter Iain MacIntyre that it doesn't appear he will be back with Vancouver next season.
Boeser's comments don't make it seem like this is a potential split he wishes to make, but it appears the Canucks star forward is on his way out and it isn't clear if there's a path forward for him to stay.
Earlier in the season during the lead up to the NHL Trade Deadline, Boeser was linked to trade rumors that ultimately did not come to fruition, but revealed that Boeser and the Canucks are apart in potential extension talks, and seemingly more so now.
Boeser, 28, had career highs of 40 goals and 73 points last season with the Canucks, but this season has dropped down to 25 goals and 49 points in 71 games.
If the Toronto Maple Leafs were to sign Brock Boeser in free agency, they'd be doing so to fill the hole of either Mitch Marner or John Tavares, with Boeser a potential 2C in the spot held by Tavares, who is still expected to re-sign with Toronto.
If one or both of these players are gone, Brock Boeser could be a solid addition with the potential to rebound from a chaotic situation in Vancouver to renewed stability in Toronto.
