With Anthony Stolarz waiting to be signed, a new contract showdown now looms for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Anthony Stolarz has been the main focus for Toronto's 2026 offseason checklist of things needing to be done, with the Leafs starting netminder about to head into the final year of a two-year deal at $2.5M.
However, another area left unchecked for Toronto that has been quieter on updates is the status of forward
Bobby McMann, likely to get a pay raise on his $1.35M salary.
A new report from David Pagnotta of '
The Fourth Period' reveals new details on where things stand regarding McMann in terms of a new contract with the Leafs.
With the Toronto Maple Leafs focused on getting goalie Anthony Stolarz locked up to a multi-year extension, talks have not yet begun with forward Bobby McMann, who is also in the final year of his current contract.
Why Bobby McMann's Contract Could Be Treliving's Quiet Test This Season
The Toronto Maple Leafs have gotten a clear potential top-six forward in Bobby McMann, and he'll be an important piece to keep in the lineup for the right price.
McMann has been a late bloomer from debuting as a 26-year-old to a 20 goal scorer for Toronto, overcoming serious odds to be one of the Leafs
most promising forward options.
Toronto may not want to overcommit for McMann, who will be 30 at the end of the season and has just 140 NHL games to his resumé. But, back-to-back 15+ goal seasons has shown McMann's worth middle-six money, and if the Leafs aren't going to pay, other teams very may well.
With a rising cap having the room to offer top dollar will be less essential, but will come with the Leafs being able to afford top players but not breaking up with what have been effective forwards.
Ultimately, if they have to, McMann could be a casualty if it means affording a top-line forward, but for the right price may not need to happen if Toronto can get the cost right.
How Stolarz Talks Shape the Leafs' Next Steps in Building Stability
Stolarz is seemingly the Leafs starter going forward, and if all goes right the man in net the next couple of years, locking him up will be a top priority for
the Leafs management to get done.
Stolarz has appeared as a top starter on paper with a league-leading .926SV% and a 21-8-3 record, but his 34 games played was the most of his career so far.
Wanting what has been a desire to have stability in net, but difficult to come by.
Getting their starting goalie position secure is not just something Toronto would want done, but leaves them with one less thing to worry about in free agency, and one less positional need having to be addressed.
The Leafs have already built a foundation where little is needed except if they want to replace the sum of their parts.
Toronto has built a roster that has the answers even if it leaves room for additional questions. They have all the pieces, even if they can do better.
What Toronto's focus is now is solidifying those internal options that they can lock up, and keep it from being one more distraction that detracts from the ultimate goal of avenging the struggle this offseason of not finding the top-six forward the Leafs had desired.
The Leafs will need to find a way to add to their roster in a way that doesn't break up their core and keeps the team depth strong, and with it will need to decide if Stolarz and McMann if they want them, or if they'll create more holes to fill.
