Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving is speaking out about captain Auston Matthews' play along with the negotiations with Mitch Marner on a new deal.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are set for a critical playoff push; if they don't advance far into the postseason, Leafs fans can expect major changes during the summer.
One of the major points of interest for the Leafs is the status of forward Mitch Marner, who is on an expiring contract and doesn't have a deal for next year.

It would be a strange sight for Leafs fans if Marner were to don the sweater of another club, which GM Brad Treliving was asked about; however, he chose to keep the attention on the immediate tasks at hand.
We're going to focus on the ice. Any updates that we have business-wise, we'll be sure to share them if and when (the time comes).

As we all know, Mitch has had a terrific year and he's a vital part of our team... he's a big part we're gonna try to accomplish the next 14 games and moving on beyond that. And that's really where all of our focus is.

Marner leads the Maple Leafs with 82 points (21G, 61A) and was in line to eclipse the century mark in points for the first time in his career; a mark he can reach if he keeps his momentum up.
Meanwhile, Leafs captain Auston Matthews led the way for his club in their 6-2 win over the Calgary Flames with a pair of goals and an assist, and Treliving was more than happy to praise his leader on the ice:
He set the standard for our group to follow. It was a matter of time (for Matthews to score two goals). Auston's overall game has been really good. He has led us defensively and that was what stood out more last night than the goals.

Matthews had been struggling in the goals department, having scored only 4 goals in his previous 12 games but has 60 points (26G, 34A) in 52 games. He missed 15 games earlier this season due to two separate injuries.
