Tragic News: 34-Year-Old Hockey Player Found Deceased at Home
In some sad news out of the KHL, it was revealed that former player Fyodor Malykhin was tragically found dead in his apartment at only 34 years old.
It's never easy when stories break of players who have
left us too early. The tragedy of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, the deaths of Stephen Peat and Tomas Kloucek and several other legends has left the hockey world shocked, saddened and stunned at their passing.
Well, it doesn't get much easier, as news out of Russia has revealed that former KHL player Fyodor Malykhin was found dead in his apartment at age 34.
While reports are scarce and the details are still being worked out, it appears the passing was that of natural causes, and no foul play is initially suspected according to Russian sources.
His former teams took the time to pay tribute to their fallen brother, with moments of silence before their games.
Malykhin did not play in the KHL in 2024-25 and his last season was spent with Avangard Omsk in 2022-23.
For his career, the KHL mainstay skated in 497 games while registering 202 points (98G, 104A) and played for six different teams: Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg, Ak Bars Kazan, Traktor Chelyabinsk, Spartak Moskva, Vityaz Poldolsk, and Avangard Omsk.
Malykhin ended up also winning the Gagarin Cup in 2018, and was a one-time KHL All-Star in 2013-14.
It's a terrible tragedy that doesn't necessarily cause waves in North America but is still felt throughout the hockey world.
We here at Hockey Patrol would like to offer our sincere condolences and well wishes to the family, friends, and colleagues of Fyodor Malykhin. May they find peace during this difficult time.
