Ben Danford reveals a former Maple Leafs player has become his mentor
Recently during an interview with The Leafs Nation with Nick Alberga and Jay Rosehill. The Toronto Maple Leafs 2024 first-round draft pick Ben Danford revealed which former player has become his mentor.
He also talked about how he wants to be like recently signed
Chris Tanev.
«One guy that I liked to compare myself during the whole draft process was Tanev actually,»
Danford attended the Maple Leafs prospect development camp, where he got the chance to talk and learn from former defenceman, Jake Muzzin.
«It was super cool [to work with Muzzin]. He's a guy that I watched not too many years ago when he was on the Leafs, he's just a great mentor and I just can't wait to keep feeding off him.»
Now, the team hopes that Oshawa Generals defender Danford can join that list of hidden gems but be a large part of the team's blue line for years to come.
Maple Leafs' GM Brad Treliving loves building from the blue line out, which could be an indication that there will be more draft picks like Danford in the next few NHL Drafts.
Danford now gets to live out his childhood dream of playing for the Maple Leafs, a team he grew up loving.
