Auston Matthews has surpassed Hall of Fame center Mats Sundin for the most goals in Toronto Maple Leafs history.

Matthews netted his record breaking 421st goal to dethrone Sundin as the Leafs all time leader in goals scored, having done so with just over 300 more games ahead of Sundin.
Having scored goal number 420 to tie Sundin in the second period of the Leafs game Saturday against the New York Islanders, Matthews got goal #421 later in the same period off an open shot from the faceoff dot.
For points, Matthews moves up to 761, and up to his next career milestone as a Leaf, nine back of defenseman Borje Salming in all-time points for Toronto, 227 points away from breaking the record held by Sundin.
Matthews last season broke the Leafs record for the quickest to 700 points done in just 607 games, breaking a record set only months earlier by Mitch Marner who did so in 622 games.
Matthews spoke earlier in the season on being in the conversation with Sundin among the Leafs greats, calling it an honor to be included alongside him and other legends who wore Toronto's jersey.
It's special just to be in the same sentence as (Sundin). Obviously guys like him and a number of others that came before us paved the way. I've worn the jersey and I think we all take a lot of pride in wearing the jersey and realize how special it is. So it definitely means a lot. - Auston Matthews
Mats Sundin congratulated Matthews personally on moving ahead of him on the Leafs all-time list, calling it "a treat" for fans seeing the record be broken.
Matthews also moves up to 92nd on he NHL's all-time goals list with goal 421.
