A look back to when Kyle Dubas ruined the Maple Leafs
Kyle Dubas was general manager for the Toronto Maple Leafs for five years starting in 2018 and now fans of the team are looking back at his legacy of failure.
During Dubas' tenure with the team, the Leafs consistently struggled to find adequate depth scoring. This is a major reason why the team failed to go on deep playoff runs under his watch. During his five years with the team, they got out of the 1st round just once, in his last season with the organization. He consistently let talent walk though that could have provided that depth the team needed. One fan pointed out several moves he made in the 2019-20 season alone that hurt the team in the long run.
Kyle Dubas 2019-20 Masterclass
Jul 1/19 Kadri for Kerfoot & Barrie
July 1/19 Traded for Ceci
Jul 4/19 Extended Kerfoot
Sept 13/19 Extended Marner
Dec 31/19 Extended Holl
Feb 12/20 Extended Engvall
Feb 19/20 Marchment for Malgin
Feb 22/20 Lost to David Ayres

The Kadri trade is one that many Leafs fans are still bitter about. On the one hand, he did have a history of getting suspended at the worst possible moment in time. That likely made Dubas want to trade him. However, he immediately found success after leaving the team, winning the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022.
Mabrook to Nazem Kadri, the first Lebanese player & the first Muslim player to win the #StanleyCup!
There's no player I wanted to see win the Stanley Cup more. I'm glad to see someone from my communities succeed in the NHL. Masha Allah! 🙏 Another player Dubas delt in 2020 was Mason Marchment. The forward has gone on to become a legitimate scoring player since leaving the team after he had a breakout season with the Florida Panthers. This year he has been a critical part of the Dallas Stars, scoring the game-winning goal in game two against the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference finals Saturday night.
MASON MARCHMENT GIVES THE STARS THE LEAD 😱
These are just a few of the moves Dubas has made that hurt the team. The list doesn't even include players like Alexander Barabanov and Rasmus Sandin. Hopefully Brad Treliving learns from Dubas' mistakes and does not follow in the same path.
