The Toronto Maple Leafs are getting fans talking with their cryptic message on social media that seems to hint at a new jersey design reveal at the 2026 Draft.
On Saturday the Maple Leafs posted a teaser on social media that got fans talking about a potential new jersey design to be revealed at the 2026 NHL Draft. It's certainly raised the level of excitement and it harkens back to the 70s and 80s and could be a way to usher in a new era of Toronto hockey.
With the NHL Draft only a couple weeks away, there's a lot of hype and excitement over who is going to be called first overall. The Maple Leafs are selecting first and it seems more than likely they are going to end up with Gavin McKenna, though we won't know until the name is called on June 26th.
Toronto fans are hoping that McKenna can be the antidote to their playoff woes and if his projected ceiling is any indication then Toronto is going to be in good hands for a long time.
Maple Leafs tease new jerseys on social media as hype around the 2026 NHL Draft grows; fans react
So to build on that excitement the team is holding a Draft Watch Party on the 26th in order to celebrate and will have various alumni, festivities and activities for fans. However, they are also teasing something pretty big on social media:

In response to not posting a countdown with two weeks to go until the NHL Draft, the Maple Leafs decided to post a cryptic post that holds an old-school Maple Leafs jersey design encased in a block of melting ice; presumably thawed once June 26th hits.
It's unknown if this is going to be an alternate jersey, a re-design of the current uniform, or something to do with the festivities on the 26th however it hasn't stopped fans from speculating on social media:

Although it also hasn't stopped fans from speculating that the Maple Leafs are not going to be taking McKenna but indeed Ivar Stenberg instead (though this is purely based on their own opinions):

The Maple Leafs know how to stir the pot and are trying to get fans excited for June 26th
Leave it to one of the most secretive clubs in all of hockey to post a cryptic tease, but much like they did with their Oreo sponsorship - it could be a big marketing ploy.
Or it could be something like a new design or rework of the current jersey, and there could be a lot more aesthetic changes coming to both the uniform and potentially Scotiabank Arena in order reflect that change is truly upon us.
But that's the beauty of what Toronto is doing, as it is causing fans to speculate, debate, ponder, and get excited about what it could potentially mean. Does it look a little silly if it turns out to be nothing but a countdown to the draft? Sure, but it got people talking.
That's more than you can say about their reactions this past season where it seemed like apathy and boredom set in. They were tired of the same old and tuned out. But now with McKenna on the horizon and this new tease on social media, hype and excitement is being drummed up once again.
Now the only question is - can Toronto follow through on it?
Do you think the Maple Leafs are going to reveal a new design at the 2026 NHL Draft?
