The Maple Leafs may not have the deepest prospect pool in the league, but they do have a top prospect that is among the best.

Matthew Knies has emerged as a legitimate possible top-six player, and the team opted to showcase him at the Traverse City Prospect Tournament.

We now know, however, that this may have been a massive mistake.

Knies May Be Injured

During the Traverse City game against Columbus Blue Jackets prospects, Knies suffered a hit to the wrist. After being briefly looked at by medical staff, he toughed out the rest of the game.

Massive Mistake?

The Traverse City Tournament is used mostly to give prospects that won't make the NHL some playing time.

Putting Knies into this situation is slightly irresponsible considering how crucial he'll be the the Maple Leafs' success this season.

I get that we sent Knies to matchup against strong CBJ and DET groups but I'd be hesitant to risk a preventable injury considering he's a good bet for a Top-6 spot on a cup contender.

Hopefully his wrist is ok, and he'll be ready to go come opening night!
