It is well noted that the Leafs are looking to bolster their defenseman core and with a contract still not in place with superstar William Nylander. Insiders have begun speculating a Nylander trade that gets a defenseman to the Leafs.
Leafs Reported Releases the Most Ridiculous Nylander Trade To Date
The Leafs currently have their eyes on the Flames'
Chris Tanev, however secondary options are also in place. There is also a route of using Nylander to acquire a superstar defenseman and that's just what a Leafs reporter suggests.
This trade proposal sees the Columbus Blue Jackets give up Zach Werenski and Patrick Laine to the Leafs. Now a two for one trade may not be the worst for the Leafs but that is not the trade at all.

In this trade scenario you see the Leafs lose the trade by far as they trade all of their depth, two firsts, their most recent first round pick and a super star for two injury prone players.
More Proof This Trade Is Terrible For The Leafs
Now if the Leafs only gave Nylander the trade still would not be ideal for the Leafs due in part to the horrible durability of both Werenski and Laine.
Last year Werenski was limited to just 13 games and Laine down to just 55 games. The Leafs do not need to add another injury-prone d-man to their core as they already struggle with that.
Plus Laine has seen to have issues with his consistency and commitment to the team he is on. Laine has been a healthy scratch multiple times in his career already.
