Toronto Maple Leafs Shocking Struggles to Acquire New Defenseman Revealed
The Toronto Maple Leafs are in the hunt to acquire a defenseman, and now it has been revealed why they are struggling to acquire one.
Leafs In Competition for Defenseman Which Will Make it More Difficult as Season Goes On
The Toronto Maple Leafs are pushing their way through the injury slog early this season, with several of their starting defensemen out with injuries. With Mark Giordano and Timothy Liljegren slowly working their way back into the lineup, the Leafs will still need to find a replacement for John Klingberg, who will be out for the remainder of the season.
Now, Chris Johnston has revealed that the Leafs despite being the most desperate team for a defenseman, teams will have a high price this early in the season.
«Right now maybe there's not a ton of competition. The Leafs are probably more motivated I'd say than the other teams that will likely join the defensive market as time goes along just because of the injuries.
But as this goes along, I think the reason this, this trade probably doesn't happen in the short-term for the Leafs is that the selling teams do have pretty high price tags on the sorts of players that they'd be looking at.
Bidding War Could be on the Horizon As Trades Delay
The issue is, though, is that as the season progresses, teams that believe they are contenders will start to come out of the woodwork trying to acquire a defenseman. This could result in a bidding war that the Leafs don't want to get in.
But as this goes along, I think the reason this, this trade probably doesn't happen in the short-term for the Leafs is that the selling teams do have pretty high price tags on the sorts of players that they'd be looking at.
If the Leafs can continue to work through this time of injury, they may be able to work through their issues without selling the farm for a defenseman.
