While most people expect Toronto to make a play for the likes of Juuse Saros, Jordan Binnington, Carter Hart or a top name, their recent actions may suggest otherwise.
According to a report from Elliotte Friedman, General Manager Brad Treliving has put out a standing offer to several teams of a sixth-round pick for one of their goaltenders.
That same report revealed that alongside Calgary's Dan Vladar, Buffalo's Eric Comrie and Ottawa's Anton Forsberg, the Maple Leafs made a play for Jake Allen of the fierce rival Montreal Canadiens.
Unsurprisingly, given how many teams out there are looking for goaltending help, all of these teams refused the lowly offer of a late-round pick, because they believe as the trade deadline rolls around, there will be much bigger offers out there.
At this point, it's quite unclear whether or not the Maple Leafs are looking to land a top star in net, but if they're looking for a cheaper option, Treliving now found out that it may not be quite as cheap as he would have hoped.
