The Toronto Maple Leafs held a morning skate earlier today ahead of their second pre-season game against the Ottawa Senators.

As you can see, John Tavares isn't in the lineup for the second consecutive game. Worry grew among fans, but coach Keefe provided an explanation as to why the Leafs' captain didn't take part in the first two games.

Meeting with the press, Keefe was asked to reveal the reasons behind Tavares' absence.

Keefe Explains Why Tavares is Sidelined for the Second Consecutive Game

David Alter reported Keefe's words:

"Sheldon Keefe says John Tavares is doing individual work and will play Wednesday. The plan was for him not to play in these first two games."

Keefe confirmed that everything is going according to plan and that he will play Wednesday against the Buffalo Sabres.

This is good news. At least we know he's not injured, and we should see him on the ice soon.

Now, let's just hope that Keefe's plan works.
