The Leafs continued their 5-game road trip on Saturday, unfortunately, they lost 5-3 against the Hurricanes in a game they probably could have won. The Leafs outplayed the Hurricanes for most of the game, they outshot the Hurricanes 44-28. One Leafs player really stood out at the game, and could have easily scored 5 or 6 goals.

Matthews had an amazing game

Auston Matthews shot 15 shots on goal this game, tying him with the franchise record. Matthews stood out all night and was arguably the best player on both teams. Sheldon Keefe, his head coach, was very happy with Matthews, despite the fact that the Leafs lost:

"He's right back to being one of the most dominant players in the league." - Keefe on Matthews, following his 2-goal performance on Saturday

Matthews has had some difficulties with injuries this season, but now that he is back and healthy, fans are seeing him show the same skill he showed last season, when he won the Ted Lindsay, Hart and the Rocket Richard Trophies. Matthews seems to be putting it all back together right before the playoffs. We hope that he is ready to help the Leafs make a deep run in the playoffs.
