The Boston Bruins pulled off a massive trade with the Washington Capitals today.
Acquiring Garnet Hathaway and Dmitry Orlov, the Bruins cemented their already incredible lineup.
It wasn't a cheap transaction, costing a 1st, a 2nd, a 3rd, a 5th, and Craig Smith, but all that matters is that they're poised for a cup.
Through this, however, it appears that Kyle Dubas is the real winner. DobberProspects scout Aaron Itovitch has revealed why:
Kyle Dubas in Great Shape to Make a Trade
Essentially, this trade has changed the market. It was reported that the Columbus Blue Jackets were looking for a 1st, a 3rd, and a 4th for Vladislav Gavrikov. The Bruins paid only a little more than this for a far superior defenseman in Orlov, with 75% salary retention, as well as a competent bottom-sixer in Hathaway.
Say Hathaway would've gone for a 2nd, it means that the Bruins paid a 1st, a 3rd, and a 5th for Dmitry Orlov at $1.275-million.
This included a cap dump in Smith.
Jarmo'd better be ready for a very underwhelming return on Gavrikov.
On that same note any contending team looking for defense has got to be happy right now Thinking Dubas could circle back on a guy like Gavrikov (or McCabe if he allows it)

It's pretty obvious that the Leafs will need to add if they want to get past the Bruins in the playoffs, and it looks like the circumstances for trades just got a lot better.
Maybe Dubas made the right decision waiting it out?
Do you think the Maple Leafs should acquire a defenseman?
