Matthew Knies Comments On Why Tonight's Game Means So Much To Him
Maple Leafs' Game Against the Wild Means a Lot to Knies.
On Saturday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Minnesota Wild will play against each other.
This is an interesting matchup. Getting to see Auston Matthews against Kirill Kaprizov never disappoints. It will also be the first time that Ryan Reaves plays against his old team.
However, it's even more interesting knowing that Matthew Knies will play this first game against his very good friend Brock Faber.
The Bond Between Knies and Faber
Matthew Knies and Brock Faber were teammates in college. They were both called up in the NHL when they were eliminated from the NCAA's Frozen Four.
Knies had great things to say about his relationship with Faber:
"Brock was one of my best friends in school; he was our captain, and I looked up to him a lot. I loved to learn from that guy, and it's pretty cool I get to play against him now. I kind of got to grow up with (both). Nice to see them do well." - Knies on Faber
Faber also talked about Knies ahead of the game:
"Matt's a great guy and a hell of a hockey player, too. The day he stepped on campus, everyone loved him. He's always worked his tail off."
But don't think for a second that they'll be friends on the ice!
"We're both giving each other a little bit of space," Knies laughed at Saturday's morning skate. "It's going to be toe-to-toe tonight."
"We made the decision (to leave Minnesota early), but it's fun we get to face off so early. We were all so close, and that's a bond we hope will last forever. But when playing against them they're not friends."
Make sure to tune in for more updates during the game!
