William Nylander Reveals Why He Winked At John Klingberg After Scoring During Home Opener
The Toronto Maple Leafs got their season off to an eventful start with a 6-5 win over the Montreal Canadiens. In the win, William Nylander winked at John Klingberg. Ever since fans have been wondering what the wink meant now we finally have the answer.
Maple Leafs Start The Season With A Big Win
The Toronto Maple Leafs began their season on Wednesday against the Montreal Canadiens. The game had everything a fan hopes that a rivalry will. Plenty of goals were scored, the game was physical, and a fight even broke out.
After going down 2-0 to start the game Maple Leafs fans were in panic mode to start the season. The newcomer Noah Gregor sparked a comeback swing with his first goal in Toronto. After a 5-goal third period between the two teams, the game was still tied.
The game would go to overtime and then a shootout. Ultimately the Leafs would prevail and come out of the first night with 2 points. William Nylander had a 2-point game in the opener but an action of his after the play is what caught Maple Leafs fans' eyes the most.
Nylander Reveals Why He Winked At Klingberg
On the goal scored to give the Maple Leafs a 3-2 lead by William Nylander he did something odd after scoring. He looked over at his teammate John Klingberg and winked at him. Many people were confused about the meaning behind the wink. Now we finally know why Nylander did this.
"I have no clue where that came from, to be honest. Somebody showed me that after the game and I was like I don't know what that was'".
While Nylander doesn't seem to have a reason for the wink to Klingberg it certainly created a fun moment for Maple Leafs fans to talk about. Who knows maybe now that Nylander created so much fanfare over the wink he might pull it out again as a goal celebration or another assist nod to a teammate.
