The 21-year-old goalie was seen as a long-term project by many specialists, but since the start of the KHL season, he has taken the League by storm.
Maple Leafs Prospect Shines in the KHL
The Leafs' fourth-round pick in 2020 has been on fire since he was recalled by Kazan, his KHL team.
He boasts a 6-3 record, with a .937 save percentage and a 2.12 goals-against average.
Earlier today, he played exceptionally well, stopping 29 of the 31 shots he faced.
Take a look at this spectacular save:
"#LeafsForever prospect Artur Akhtyamov is on a roll. He stopped 29 of 31 shots this morning for the OT win, his 5th win in a row.
He's 6-3 with a .937 sv%, which ranks as the 6th best in the entire KHL."
The Toronto Maple Leafs' depth in the goaltender position has been a concern for years. But now, with Woll preparing for the NHL, Akhtyamov dominating in the KHL, and the addition of Vyacheslav Peksa, Dennis Hilldeby, and Keith Petruzzelli, the future looks promising for the Leafs' goaltending.
