Sheldon Keefe, the head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, recently shared that defenseman Erik Gustafsson will be leaving the team to handle a personal issue in Washington.
As reported by David Alter:
Keefe confirmed that Gustafsson was absent from the ice and would not be accompanying the team as he needed to address a personal family matter.
The 31-year-old Gustafsson joined the Maple Leafs earlier this season in a trade for Rasmus Sandin. To date, he has accumulated 39 points in 69 games played, representing both the Maple Leafs and the Washington Capitals.
As Gustafsson shifts his focus to his family, it is hoped that all is well. Kudos to the Leafs for putting their players' personal concerns above the game of hockey.
