Leafs Fifth Rounder Wins Major Award and Fans Should be Excited
Talk about finding a diamond in the rough. A fifth round draft pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2022, an over-ager at that, has won a major award, something that should get fans excited.
Alexei Cherepanov Award
Nikita Grebyonkin, taken 135th overall, has won the KHL's Alexei Cherepanov Award, which makes him the league's Rookie of the Year. Grebyonkin played 45 games for HC Amur, notching 9 goals and 26 points.
Looking Forward
Grebyonkin has not signed an entry-level contract with the Maple Leafs yet. The team may decide to continue to let the 20-year-old develop in his home country before making the call. That will be the decision of whomever takes over from former GM Kyle Dubas.
