Kyle Dubas On The Verge Of Stealing Another Former Maple Leaf?
Kyle Dubas took over this summer as General Manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Since taking the job he has signed several players who have played for his former team the Toronto Maple Leafs. Now he could be targeting another former Leaf to join him in Pittsburgh.
Veteran Maple Leaf Still On The Market
Veteran forward and former Maple Leaf Zach Aston-Reese is still available on the free-agent market. Aston-Reese spent the 2022-23 season with the Leafs. He ended the season with 14 points while playing a depth defensive focused role with the Leafs. Now he could be reuniting with Kyle Dubas in a familiar place.
Now Aston-Reese will likely be looking for a new home and the perfect destination may be a reunion of sorts.
Aston-Reese Back To Pittsburgh?
Zach Aston-Reese is unlikely to head back to Toronto after all of the additions they made to their forward group this summer. This has left some wondering where his next logical fit could be.
A reunion with former Leafs General Manager Kyle Dubas seems like the perfect fit. Dubas is still looking to add to the Penguins depth forwards heading into the 2023-24 season.
Aston-Reese started and played much of the beginning of his career with the Penguins. The match could be the perfect time for Aston Reese to return on a Player Tryout (PTO). It would allow Aston-Reese to try and make the team while not leaving much risk on the Penguins.
