Kyle Dubas Faces Investigation for Possible Conflict of Interest
The NHLPA has launched an investigation into former Leafs Kyle Dubas, citing a potential conflict of interest violation, according to a report from Fank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff
Dubas, who is represented by agent Chris Armstrong of Wasserman Sports, the same company that employs agent Judd Moldaver, the agent for Leafs superstar Auston Matthews.
The NHLPA is looking into whether there is a conflict of interest of Dubas and Matthews sharing the same agency, the argument revolving over whether it is a conflict for two members of the same agency to provide services in regards to the same organization.
As someone who is not a certified NHL agent, Armstrong is not subject to any potential disciplinary action, but the NHLPA looks to investigate the ties between the two.
Wasserman is the third largest agency for NHL talent, having 71 registered NHLers in their talent pool, including superstars including Auston Matthews, Connor McDavid & Aaron Ekblad.
What Could an Outcome Be?
It isn't clear what would be the outcome of the investigation, but the NHLPA is making sure of an extensive and diligent investigation.
"The question for the NHLPA to determine: Are agents working for the same agency, but in a different division or arm of the firm, also prohibited from representing hockey executives on the other side of the table?" - Frank Seravalli
