The Toronto Maple Leafs have extended one star forward this summer in the form of Auston Matthews, and now as training camp kicks off, all attention turns to William Nylander and his contract situation.
Built for Toronto
While there's been plenty of speculation that the Calgary Flames, the New York Islanders and several other teams are interested in trading for Nylander, it appears that many within the organization want him to extend.
One of those players is perhaps the most important to the organization in the form of captain John Tavares, who has said that Nylander is "built for Toronto", and would hate to see the 27-year old leave.
I really think he's built to play in Toronto. We love him here.
A rising superstar
Despite gaining less attention due to playing alongside Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner, Nylander has continued to grow into a genuine star in the NHL, with the winger recording a career high in points and goals this past season.
He's also clearly acclimatized himself in Toronto, as he recently revealed that Toronto is home, and while that doesn't mean he'll sign a deal for nothing, it certainly plays a part in negotiations.
It appears Morgan Rielly is in full support of a Nylander return as well, as he spoke glowingly of the winger in a recent interview as training camp kicks off.
I think he's very well equipped. That being said, as his teammate and friend, you just have to support him...I don't have any doubt that he loves playing here and feels comfortable here.
Ultimately, it's tough to predict what's about to happen with Nylander and his contract, but one thing is for sure, and that is that he has the full support of his teammates, who believe his future in Toronto is incredibly bright if he chooses to stay.
